Stephanie Holbrook, RMT, BKin
Following a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2016 at the University of British Columbia, I returned to the island to complete the Registered Massage Therapy Program at WCCMT. I graduated from this 2200 hour program in August of 2018. My educational background in kinesiology and biomechanics has served as a particularly valuable foundation in understanding the human body as a whole while considering the source of an ailment. A holistic approach to manual therapy is, in my opinion, a key component to sustained, effective healing and rehabilitation.
My philosophy is simple: under reasonable conditions, our bodies are proficient at healing themselves. My goal is to facilitate the natural healing process by listening to and understanding my client's needs in order to develop an individualised treatment plan that enhances their healing while reducing injury-related anxieties. Every treatment is uniquely tailored, however the general objectives are to improve function, reduce pain, and help prevent future injuries through client education and thoughtful treatment plans.
I use a variety of techniques including deep tissue, Swedish, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretching, trigger point therapy, active modalities, among others. I have a particular interest in women’s health, athletic injuries, postural strains (+prevention), repetitive strain injuries, persistent pain, stress/anxiety management, and post-training recovery. My clients tend to be active individuals looking to optimise their everyday wellness and sport performance/recovery.
I would describe my approach to massage therapy as client-centered and evidence based, with special attention to creating a calming, healing space. I always enjoy helping my clients become more confident and informed in what they can do in daily life to improve their well-being and I believe this to be one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
Having grown up amid a community of triathletes, I developed an early appreciation for physical activity, nutrition, and the profound benefits of a healthy, mindful lifestyle.
